The court ruled that this amount be withheld from his legacy if he did not give up the property before next term of court."
Houston County, Georgia Tax Digest. Ephraim Wilson appears on the 1831 Tax Digest list for Houston County, GA in Capt. Smith's district, as do one Burrell Wilson (whom Ephraim witnessed a deed for in Houston Co, GA) and Irwin/Irvin Wilson Ephraim is listed as a "defaulter." It appears that he may have moved from Houston Co, GA to Copiah Co, MS shortly after the 1830 Houston Co, GA census was taken.

[WHT: I have no information to prove that the Ephraim in Rutherford, NC is the son of John. However, his age, name and the fact some of his children are born in SC, makes it a good possibility.]Sumter Dist., SC Deed Book E, p. 15. 1817 a deed of gift from Nancy Christmas to her son, Ephraim.

[WHT: It appears Ephraim died between 1840 and 1850; we could find no estate records at the NC Archives. In reviewing the 1850 census records for his children, it also appears Ephraim moved from Sumter Dist., SC, after 1819; daughter, Catherine was born 1819 in SC, and before 1825, the year daughter, Nancy was born in Rutherford Co., NC.]
Some information provided by Elizabeth Smith Burden, a descendant, from an article in "The Heritage of Rutherford Co., N.C." mentions the following: Ephraim probably migrated to Rutherford Co., N.C. before 1830, not listed in 1850 Census; some sources say his wife's last name was Gilekest.

[WHT: It is an ASSUMPTION that this William is a child of Samuel.]1850 Census, Chester Co., SC; Dwelling 308, p. 20 list William Christmas, age 36, farmer & Jane, 34; both born in SC. Living with them are: Louisa Hines, age 14; Anna age 11; J.A. age 5; M.L. age 5; Nancy Baldwin, age 22 & E. J. Brazil age 6 mo.
12. George W. (William) Christmas-29
[WHT: It is an ASSUMPTION on my part that George is a son of William. However, I have found no land grants or any other Christmas records, from the 1730's to the 1780's in SC, other than those for Jonathan and his sons: John, Samuel & William. Verbal family information says George is father of Nathan.]The 1790 Federal Census for S.C. list only three Christmas/Chrismas. They were listed in the Camden District, Claremont Co., SC as follows: W. Christmas (probably William) as having one son over 16 years of age, one son under 16 years and 3 females over 16 years. This Census also list an S. (probably Samuel) Chrismas with 1 male over 16, 2 males under 16 and 3 females; also J. (probably John) Christmas, with 1 male over 16, 1 male under and 1 female. The only record, I have found, regarding possible descendants of William & Samuel is a Samuel, a minor in the 1790's, Sumter Dist., SC.
According to census information, George was born in SC between 1770-80 which would put him in the proper age to be a child of William or Samuel, but probably born after 1774; date of land grants. The first reference I have found to George being in Marion Co. is from the "Inventory Book (1827 - 1836) for Marion District, SC" on p. 184, the estate of Thomas Hulon (P. R. 339, 15 May 1821) list George W. Christmas, Christopher Dew & James Locus as owing notes to the estate.
Census information show both George and Nathan were born in SC.
1830 SC Census, Marion District, SC; Marion, Micro Film page 011, list Nathan Christmas, age 30-40; one male under 5, (William G.); one female 5-10 years (Elizabeth) & one female 20-30 years, probably his wife.
Also listed is George W. Christmas, same page and district; one male 50-60 years of age; one male 10-15 years; one female 30-40 years and one female 5-10 years.
Nathan and George are both listed in the 1840 Census, Marion Co.,SC; page 140. Nathan family as follows: males-one under 5; one 5-10; one 10-15 and one 50-60. females- two under 5; two 5-10; one 10-15; one 15- 20 and one 30-40. George W. family as follows: males-one 70-80; females- one 10-15 and one 60-70. [WHT: the age for George & Nathan was increased 20 years from the 1830-40 census; probably a guess by census enumerator.]
George is not listed in the 1850 Census of Marion Co., S.C. nor in any other county or district; however Nathan and family are listed; George probably died before 1850.
An entry in the I.G.A. records of The Church of Latter-Day Saints, shows a George W. Christmas and Sarah Calder of Marion Co., SC had twins on Aug. 8, 1829. The twins were named Nancy Ann Christmas and Nathan Alexander Christmas. I do not think this is an accurate entry.
[WHT: info only; a Jarrett Christmas marries Elizabeth Johnson in Hancock Co., GA - 1821. Nathan names his second son Jariot - spelling could be Jarrett.]
