FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Betty Ann Poland, 76, of Fort Collins, passed away Dec. 3, 2009, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. She was born July 20, 1933, in Lynchburg, to Porter and Alma Boyce.
On Jan. 24, 1969, Betty married Robert LeRoy Poland in Boulder, Colo. They moved from Boulder to Fort Collins in 2004. While Betty lived in Boulder, she was employed with Miller, Hale & Harrison in Boulder as the law firm's bookkeeper and tax preparer.
Betty is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert; sons, Ron (Helen) Parker of Columbia, Mo., Tim Parker of Seattle, Wash., and Robert (Birgit Halbrieter) Poland of Fort Collins; grandsons, Zakquery, Blaise, Maximilian, Kaspar and Fritz; brother, P.T. "Pete" (Barbara) Boyce of Florence; and sisters, Perline Outlaw and Helen Hodge, both of Sumter, Margie Rogers of Joanna and Mildred (Marvin) Burress of Wedgefield; and sister-in-law, Ruby Boyce of Laurens.She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Charles Boyce and Dan Boyce.
A memorial service will be held in Sumter at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty's memory to the Pathways Hospice in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Archie Clifford McElveen died peacefully at Heritage Home of Florence early Sunday morning. Born in 1920 in the Tans Bay section of Florence County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Rosa Lee Carnell McElveen. He was the oldest of nine children.
In 1939 he married the late Bertie Mae Baldwin. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Europe for the duration of WWII. He was a participant in the June 1944 D-Day invasion. After WWII he switched over to the U.S. Air Force serving in such locations as Shaw AFB in S.C., Oklahoma, Alabama, New York, Tripoli (Libya), Illinois, Alconbury (England), and retiring at Myrtle Beach AFB in 1964 at a rank of TSGT.Cliff spent most of his non-military life in Florence, Horry, and Richland Counties in S.C.
Cliff and Bertie had four children: the late Lavon McElveen, Kerry Wilcott (New Bern, NC), the late Sandra Courtney, and Scot McElveen (Cortez, CO). He is also survived by three siblings, Gene McElveen, Julie Moody, and Jimmy McElveen (all of Florence), six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Cliff's favorite pastimes included fishing, cooking, Braves' baseball, working in his yard and garden, and taking care of many beloved dogs through the decades.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 13th at 2 p.m. at Florence Memorial Gardens. She had been a resident there since February 2012, and previously resided at Shelby Manor Assisted Living for four years. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, S.C. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Born in Sumter, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Rufus Carlisle Tallon Sr. and Belle Goodman Tallon. A 1936 graduate of Columbia High School, she attended Business Administration classes at the University of South Carolina. She retired from Mt. Vernon Mills as Personnel Manager after 40 years of service. Mrs. Dunning was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Columbia for over 60 years. At the time of her death, her membership was with St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Kings Mountain, N.C.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Teetie Tallon of Chattanooga Tenn., June Tallon of Shelby N.C. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Hap" Dunning Jr.; her brothers, R.C. Tallon Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn., Henry G. Tallon of Shelby, N.C. and her sister, Ruth Tallon Jones of Gaithersburg, Md.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Mable Claire Brown Tallon, known as "Teetie" to friends, 93, died on Monday, April 20, 2015 in Chattanooga after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the oldest daughter of May Belle Newman and Wesley Abbott Brown. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, she was a graduate of Columbia High School and attended Colonial Heights Baptist Church. During World War II, she was a stenographer for the United States Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
After her marriage she lived in Birmingham, Atlanta and Chattanooga. Mrs. Tallon worked as a secretary for Hensley-Schmidt Engineering until her retirement in 1982. She and her husband formed Automatic Ice Company in 1972 which they ran for 30 years. She was a wonderful loving and caring wife, mother and "granny" and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rufus Carlisle Tallon, and an infant son, Rufus Carlisle Tallon III. She is survived by daughters, Pat Brinsfield (John) of Ringgold, GA, and Pam Rule (Tom) of Macon, GA; and sons, Wes Tallon of Douglasville, GA, and Webb (Karen) Tallon of Chattanooga. She has three grandsons: Ben Johnson (Ashley) of Chattanooga, Caleb Rule (Chelsea) of Augusta, GA, and Patrick Rule of Macon, GA. She is also survived by a sister, Bettye Thompson of Pueblo, CO, and a sister-in-law, June Tallon of Shelby, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Tallon died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998 at Roper Hospital in North Charleston. Born in Charleston, he was a son of Sarah White Tallon and the late Eston O. Tallon. He was employed with Rust Construction Company at the Amoco Plant as an insulator. Surviving are his wife, Connie Moorer Tallon of Goose Creek; his mother of Summerville; son, John Arlin Tallon of Johns Island; daughter, Ashley Sierra Tallon of Summerville; sister, Lorraine T. Barker of Summerville.

TALLON, Harry Mr. Harry Lindler Tallon, age 84, of Hanahan, SC, husband of Bertha Fulton Tallon, passed away on Friday evening, Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Charleston, SC. Friends and family of Mr. Harry L. Tallon are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 10:00 am at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Burial will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home this evening, Sunday, August 3, 2008, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
Mr. Harry Lindler Tallon was born on August 21, 1923 in Lee County South Carolina to the late Mr. John Franklin Tallon and the late Frances Lindler Tallon. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy Armed Guard in World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was a survivor of the D-day Invasion and served in the North Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean Seas. He worked as a Salesman for over 30 years with the Greenbax Stamp Company, an affiliate of the Piggly Wiggly Supermarket Chain, in South Carolina. He was a Lifetime member of the Dorchester Masonic Lodge, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17, as well as a member of the American Legion Post. He was also a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Mrs. Bertha Fulton Tallon; two sons, Joseph Fulton Tallon, and his wife Martha Francese, of Summerville and Harry Leroy 'Roy' Tallon of Hanahan; one daughter, Lindler Tallon Bootle, and her husband Freddie, of Folly Beach; six grandchildren, Mary Ellen Bootle Thacker, and her husband Dean, Timothy Tallon Bootle, and his wife Erin, Martha Elizabeth Bootle; Matthew Alexander Tallon, and his wife Lindsay, Joshua Anthony Tallon, and his wife Kristen, and Charles 'Charlie' Lindler Tallon; six great-grandchildren, Katherine, Thomas, Summer and Daniel Thacker and David and Martha Bootle. Mr. Tallon was preceded in death by six brothers and his parents.

Mrs. Tallon was born on April 12, 1924, in Bloomingvale, SC, the youngest of nine children of Joseph Wallace Fulton and Frances Ellen Smith Fulton. She was an active member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lindler Bootle, and her husband Fred of Folly Beach, SC; sons, Joseph Tallon, and his wife Martha of Summerville, SC, and Roy Tallon of Hanahan, SC; sister, Grace Boykin of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren: Mary Ellen Bootle Thacker, Martha Elizabeth Bootle, Timothy Tallon Bootle, Matthew Alexander Tallon, Joshua Anthony Tallon and Charles Lindler Tallon; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
