According to John Franklin Christmas (a grandson), Merry and his brother, Robert, left Sumter Co., SC after the Civil War and moved to Drew Co., AR. Merry married Sarah Jane and had several children; around 1901, Merry left Sarah Jane and returned to Sumter Co., SC where he married Virginia and had other children. Merry and Robert are listed on the 1900 Drew Co., AR census, Collins Township; Micro Film 1210, Roll # 57. The odd thing about this census is he is listed as a widow, but letter states Sarah died in 1949.

I also have a paper showing where M. F. Christmas signed the petition to incorporate Collins. This was 1902. It is listed in the Secretary of State of Arkansas office.

This is a reply from a lady that did a lookup for me. I visited this cemetery in I believe in 1988 with Jabez Christmas widow--Estella Riley(she had remarried). At that time there was a tombstone also for Robert Christmas--Merry Franklin's brother. Claudions Lemuel Christmas (also called Dock) is the full name for Claude (from John Christmas information)
(Sherry, I see the Christmas cemetery north of Collins, AR and it has Claude Christmas buried there, but there are also 6 unmarked graves in that cemetery. It says about the cemetery "This cemetery is also referred to as the Bowden Cemetery and contains the graves of several people including BEN CHRISTMAS, stone gone. It is stated at one time there was a school and church near here. It is said to have started in the mid 1800s." The directions to this cemetery are: East on Hwy. 35 (from Monticello) to Collins, then north on County Road 69 approximately 2.25 miles. Cemetery lies west of road. (T 13S, R4W, Sec. 19). Karen.)
