Auntie Florence, as we all knew her, was a very sweet and thoroughly Southern woman. She always had a special place in our hearts of all of my grandfather's sisters because she and Uncle Billy used to be so good to my Aunt Merrie when she was so ill in her young life. As you know, Merrie died in 1969. Of all of my grandfather's sisters, she was the most influencial.

DELAND - Florence Rose Christmas Bryan, 86, of Torchwood Drive, died Nov. 9, 2004, at Florida Hospital-DeLand. Calling hours will be 2-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, 126 E. New York Ave. in DeLand. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. Burial will be at DeLand Memorial Gardens, 600 E. Beresford Ave., following the service.

Mrs. Bryan retired as a secretary for National Cash Register Co., now known as NCR Corp. Born in Lax, Ga., she moved to Miami in 1926, and moved from Miami to DeLand in 1982. She graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1935. Mrs. Bryan was a member of First United Methodist Church of DeLand, United Methodist Women, the DeLand Country Club, the Marigold Circle of the DeLand Garden Club, and the DeLand Woman's Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch William Bryan Jr., and her daughter, Carole Sue Bryan Smith. She is survived by one granddaughter, Lori Sue Burkhart of Miami, one grandson, Troy Alan Burkhart of Miami, and one sister, Lillie Hubbard of Lake Helen. Allen-Summerhill was in charge.

[WHT: Following information provided by Tom Lloyd: Randall Norton Christmas was a commissioner of Miami, Florida from 1953-55, and the Mayor of Miami from 1955-57. In 1959 he was appointed to an Assistant State Attorney position in Metro Dade court.]

She was born with only one kidney and was generally sick for most of her life. A park-Merry Christmas Park-was named in her honor in-1958-the first stages of her extended illness

1276. Montine Christmas-11354


Montine Christmas Stokes, 95, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stokes was born August 10, 1914 in Wilcox County to the late James A. and Eura Melvin Christmas. She lived in Fitzgerald most of her life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1931. Mrs. Stokes was a homemaker, a former employee of The Monarch Company and Irwin Mfg and also managed the family farm. She was a member of the First Baptist church where she was a member of Bethany Sunday School Class, the WMU and a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Stokes was a former member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. For the past five years she was a resident of the The Harris House.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law: Joyce Treece of Fitzgerald and Joan & Rev. Bill Priester of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Kurt & Cindy Treece, Lisa & Mike Smith, Laine & Rick Bellinger, Karen Connell, Joy & David Lamb, Jodi & Michael Pirkle and Jan & Tim Leonard; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Edgar Stokes, baby daughter, Lanelle Stokes, son-in-law, James Treece, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 367, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.

Margaret Bison Howard is the wife of Carl Rayford Howard. On this day
March 18, 2000 I checked the SSDI and found a Margaret Howard with
same birth date and died 17 Feb 2000. Last known resience is Dooly
county 31092. SSN 257-19-3759, issued in Georgia.
