1417. Howard Windell Christmas-712

[WHT: Thanks to Howard W. Christmas (HWC) who began his own Christmas family research in the 1960s. Howard researched, gathered research done by others and paid many dollars for professionals to research the Christmas name. He helped all of us, directly or indirectly, by sharing his information with anyone that had an interest.

It is difficult to research the surname Christmas without coming across information that has been provided by Howard. His passion for presenting the surname Christmas to the world is unparalleled and his zeal for placing that information in libraries for others to use is unrivaled. He was also tireless in sending surveys to anyone with the name of Christmas. From his initial contact, he inspired many to begin their own research.

I have never had the pleasure of personally meeting Howard, but have spoken with him by phone a few times as well as corresponded with him several times. This was in the late 1980s through the early 1990s, before he retired from doing Christmas research. His work was all done before computers were used to compile data and, at times, I must confess, more difficult to comprehend. However, as I have learned more about our surname, I have come to appreciate his efforts and information even more.

In 1990-91, Howard was nice enough to send me several files containing copies of some of his work and correspondence over the years. As I add to our collective information, I still check those files every six months or so and, every time that I do, I find something that is helpful. If computers and programs had been available to Howard as we have them today, I'm certain many of our questions would be answered!]
