Clifton of DeKalb, Jill (Dr. Rusty) Knight of Tupelo, Dr. Joni (Lt. Commander Keith) Utley of Boston, Mass., Cory (Chuck) Hawthorne of Buckeye, Ariz., and Beth (Heath) Baker of Mobile, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston William Clifton; siblings: Brantley Cumberland, Earl Cumberland, Jack Cumberland, Buford Cumberland, Fred Cumberland, Sherlon Cumberland, and Mae Copeland; and her parents, Samuel and Ellen Cumberland.

Pallbearers will be Obie Drew Clifton, Glen Copeland, Luke Cumberland, Raymond Cumberland, Sherlon Cumberland Jr., Dr. Rusty Knight, Robert Sorrells and Joel Cumberland. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Survivors include, two sons, John Wilson of Pine Bluff, Mark Wilson of Milo, Iowa; four daughters, Joann McCall, Velma Wilson, Alisa Jackson all of White Hall, Vickie Watson of Star City; two brothers, H. L. "Lawson" Alexander of Jackson, Miss., W. M. "Dub" Alexander of Philadelphia, Miss.; a sister, Nannie Tolbert of Philadelphia, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Copeland is survived by his wife, Opal Copeland; daughters, Debby Alford and Diane Alford; son, Ronald Joe Copeland ; sisters,Tommie Ruthvens and Charlotte Burton; a sister-in-law; brothers, Larry Copeland, all of Phila, MS and Stanley Copeland of Hernando, MS; (9) grandchildren; (16) great-grandchildren; host of nieces & nephews.

Pallbearers was Rodney Eric Copeland, Robby Alford, Kevin Alford, Dylan Alford, Thomas Cameron and Drew Jones.

She was the oldest daughter of May Belle Newman and Wesley Abbott Brown. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, she was a graduate of Columbia High School and attended Colonial Heights Baptist Church. During World War II, she was a stenographer for the United States Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

After her marriage she lived in Birmingham, Atlanta and Chattanooga. Mrs. Tallon worked as a secretary for Hensley-Schmidt Engineering until her retirement in 1982. She and her husband formed Automatic Ice Company in 1972 which they ran for 30 years. She was a wonderful loving and caring wife, mother and "granny" and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rufus Carlisle Tallon, and an infant son, Rufus Carlisle Tallon III. She is survived by daughters, Pat Brinsfield (John) of Ringgold, GA, and Pam Rule (Tom) of Macon, GA; and sons, Wes Tallon of Douglasville, GA, and Webb (Karen) Tallon of Chattanooga. She has three grandsons: Ben Johnson (Ashley) of Chattanooga, Caleb Rule (Chelsea) of Augusta, GA, and Patrick Rule of Macon, GA. She is also survived by a sister, Bettye Thompson of Pueblo, CO, and a sister-in-law, June Tallon of Shelby, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Interment followed in National Cemetery. Please share your condolences at www.chattanoogaeastchapel.com.
