Frances Jacobs Christmas, 89, of Columbus, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Heritage Hills Alzheimer's Facility. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus GA 31907 with the Reverend Lamar Harper officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Christmas was born March 22, 1921 in Cordele, GA. She was one of ten children born to the late William Carter Jacobs and Maye Belle Arnett. Mrs. Christmas moved to Columbus in 1947. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing most of her daughters clothing including underwear. Mrs. Christmas was a great cook and Sunday Dinners were always a big production, using the good china and silverware. She also loved canning and preserving foods. Mrs. Christmas was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years James A. Christmas, Sr., six brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include three daughters: Judith Poor of Orlando, FL, Julia Elizabeth Nutting and husband Charles of Blue Ridge, GA, Audrey C. Goodson and husband Bobby of Columbus; a son, James A. "Buddy" Christmas, Jr. and wife Sue of Leesburg, GA; a sister, Mable Jewell Jacobs of Cordele, GA; a sister-in-law, Flora Jacobs of Vienna, GA; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Heritage Hills and Columbus Hospice. A special thanks goes out to Vanessa Johnson, Debbie Garner, and LaShun Scott. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy Fay Barrow Christmas of Cherry Lake, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle Connie and Kenny Velez of Middleberg, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee Diane and Craig Guadagni of Miami, Fla.; a son, Lewis N. Christmas II of Cherry Lake, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Irvin and Jiselle Christmas of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandsons, Michael Lewis Christmas, Benjamin Leevi Christmas, Jesse Brian Velez, Eric William Velez, Christopher Felix Rodriguez, Cameron Joseph Guadagni, Lewis N. Christmas III, Zachery Alan Christmas; and one granddaughter, Amelia Danielle Christmas; one brother, James Christmas LaBelle, Fla.; and a sister, Susie Kyle of Boston, Mass.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, at the Maxwell-Miller Chapel in Quitman with the Rev. Philip Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Church Cemetery in TyTy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Lee Smith Christmas was born Dec 5 1896 in Irwinville, Ga and died Nov 26, 1941. He was buried in Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, Ga. Lee married Alma Melviny Thompson Dec 18, 1916 in Omega Ga. Jereline was born on October 25, 1925 to Lee and Alma Christmas in Georgia. She married O.M. “George” Lasseter on July 12, 1942 in Mississippi. She was a long time resident of Odessa. Jereline worked as a registered nurse at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for 20 years, retiring in March 1988.
Survivors include loving husband of 63 years, O.M. “George” Lasseter; son, Randy Lasseter and wife Ginger of Odessa; daughters, Jan Argo and husband Claude of Covington, WA; Jill Greer and husband Terry of Henderson, TX; sister, Louise Ridley and husband Earl of Georgia; Brothers, Bobby Christmas and wife Nina of Florida, and Lloyd Christmas and wife Pearl of Midland; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Sharon Mangum and Carol Lasseter.
