Mr. Elmore was a member of First Baptist Church and was a retired draftsman for James & DuRant Architects. He was a lifetime member of the Palmetto State Pigeon Club, and was also a member of the National Modena Club and the National Pigeon Association.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one daughter, Josie Elmore of Lexington; one brother, Roland Goff Elmore, Jr. (Carolyn) of Spartanburg; four sisters, Jean E. Smith (George) of Charleston, Virginia Caughman (Len) of Bishopville, Vivian Davis (Olin) of Sumter, and Frances Norris (Edward) of Greeleyville; three sisters-in-law, Delores Elmore (Steve) of Bishopville; Mary J. He is survived by his wife, Jean E. He was twice married, first to the late Ruth Spradley Smith and later to Louise Ingram Newman Smith of Sumter who survives along with his three daughters, Mary Alice Beatson and husband, Bobby, Sr., Linda S. Bailey and husband, Joe, all of Sumter and Jo Anne Catledge and husband Paul of Columbia; two sons, C. Furman Smith, Jr. and wife Susan, Thomas F. Smith and wife Peggy, all of Sumter; a special niece, Gertrude P. Lyons of Sumter; 12 grandchildren, Robin Hubbard, Kim Fralick, Bobby Beatson, Jr., Ronnie Beatson, C.F. She was a retired school teacher after 21 years.

SUMTER - Lillie Luther Smith, widow of Jasper Chadwick Smith, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in Sumter Health and Rehabilitation East. Born August 15, 1914, in Darlington County, SC, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Luther and the late Alice Dunlap Luther. She graduated from Hartsville High School and furthered her education at Coker College, Hartsville, SC, where she earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics with a double minor in History and Religion in 1936. Upon graduation from Coker, she then took special graduate classes in Children's Literature at Wake Forest University, Wake Forest, NC.

As a young woman, she taught third and fourth grade in the S.C. public school system in Darlington and Lee counties before marriage to her beloved husband, Jasper Chadwick Smith on April 2, 1944. Following her marriage, she worked closely along side her husband in his successful retail clothing business, Smith Clothing Company, formerly located at 34 North Main Street, Sumter, SC, until his untimely death in October of 1958. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church Sumter where she formerly taught Sunday school and Bible school, and was a choir mother for the young children's music program. She will be remembered for her love of learning and study in education, interest in music and the arts, and her lovely crochet handwork.

Surviving are one loving and caring daughter, Jane Luther Smith of Sumter, three sisters, Mrs. Claude (Kathryn) Funkhouser and her husband of Bethesda, MD, Mrs. William Baxter (Marjorie) Harley and her husband of Columbia, SC, and Mrs. Robert Leslie (Mary) Hudson of Salisbury, NC, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Russell Jennings (Myrtle) Luther of Hartsville, SC, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Ernest Brasington (Bessie) Rogers and four brothers, William Carson Luther, Charles Marvin Luther, William Walton Luther and Russell Jennings Luther, Sr.

Manning, SC: Mary Smith Reynolds, 68, wife of William "Bill" Reynolds, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston. Born in Bishopville, she was a daughter of the late Danton Smith and the late May Baker Smith. Mrs. Reynolds loved to deliver stuffed animals to nursing homes for special occasions.

Survivors include her husband of Manning; a son, Wayne Hodge (Louise) of Sumter; a sister, Jewel Browder of Manning; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Smith of Sumter; two special great-grandchildren, Danielle Joiner and Daniel Causey; and a number of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hodge; and a daughter, Donna Thames.

Wade is survived by his loving wife, Karen Jones of West Columbia; his children and their spouses, Vicki (Jay) Lowder and Wade Griffin (Patsy) Jones, Jr, Marie (Mark) Kirlough, Kathy Mooneyham and Jason (Jessica) Mooneyham. He also leaves behind his 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving Wade are his sisters, Gale Crayton of Hayesville, NC, Lou Anna Domann of Platteville, WI and Georgia Shaffer of Springfield, MO; and sister-in-law, Cathy Jones of Hayesville, NC. Wade was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Richardson Jones; and two daughters, Brenda Smalley and Linda Danvers. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Willie Frank and Jack Jones; and one sister, Millie Baker.

Entombment will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Springdale Baptist Church Building Fund or to Eastwood Baptist Church Building Fund. Mrs. Jones died Thursday, April 20, 2006. Born in Mullins, SC, she was the daughter of the late E. Clyde Richardson and Mary F. Byrd Richardson. Formerly of West Melbourne, FL, she had been an area resident since 1962. Mrs. Jones was a member of Springdale Baptist Church and was retired from Harris Teeter.

Surviving are her husband, Wade G. Jones, Sr. of West Columbia; daughters and son-in-law, Vicki and Jay Lowder of Eastover, Patty Cade of Columbia; sons and daughter-in-law, Robbie Cade of Batesburg, Griff and Patsy Jones of Columbia; step-daughters, Brenda Smalley of Houston, TX, Linda Davners of Kilgore, TX; sisters, Betty Orvin and Margaret Malphrus, both of St. Stephens; brothers, Harvey Richardson and Allen Richardson, both of Moncks Corner, Billy Richardson of Orlando, FL, Danny Richardson of Columbia, and Jimmy Richardson of Kingstree; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Jack D. Jones, 65, of Hayesville, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 from complications of his Neuro-Muscular disease, Charcot-Marie-Tooth Syndrome. He was the familiar face at Tri-State Upholstery/ Spa and Boat Cover World and The Cottage Deli. Jack's love of life and inspiration to others will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his loving and doting wife of 15 years, Cathy Jones; a daughter, Audrey Jones of Columbia, S.C.; a son, Brandon Jones and wife, Erica of Columbia; four grandchildren, Corey, Juliet and Beatrice Jones, of Columbia, and Estella Richardson of Columbia; a brother, Wade Jones and wife, Karen of Columbia; three sisters, Georgia Shaffer and husband, John of Springfield, Mo., Lou Anna Domann and husband, Fred of Platteville, Wis., and Gale Crayton of Hayesville; and a loving brother-in-law and adoptive father, Merle Baker of Sumter, S.C.

A celebration of his life will be held from 1-7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9 at his residence, 2571 Myers Chapel Rd., Hayesville, NC 28904. SUMTER, S.C. - John William Bell, 85, husband of Edna Mae Fincher Bell, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late William Franklin Bell and the late Mamie Bell Mathis. He was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. Mr. Bell was a retired Lt. Col. After having served 26 years in the US Air Force. He was a B-24 pilot during World War II with the 8th Air Force and the 392nd Bomb Group. He was based in Wendling, England and flew missions over France, Germany, and Holland.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years; three daughters, Clara B. Canup and her husband, Charles, of Social Circle, GA, Alice B. Caste and Cynthia M. Bell both of Sumter; three grandchildren, Jenni Gerard and Stephanie Fitzgerald both of GA, and John J. Caste of Sumter; two great-grandchildren, Gregory Gerard, Jr. and Angelica Gerard both of GA; three brothers, Ray F. Bell of Atlanta, GA, Harold L. Bell of East Point, GA, and Lennie Bell of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Bell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. His grandson and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 400 Percival Rd., P.O. Harold Lafayette Bell, 82, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. He was born December 20, 1931 to the late William F. and Mamie S. Bell in Lee County, SC. He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Benefield Bell; grandson James Montgomery Bell; and brothers Herbert G. Bell and John W. Bell.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Michael H. and Bridget Bell, grandchildren David N. Bell and Stephanie Bell Kleimann, brothers Ray Franklin Bell and Lennie Smith Bell.

Harold served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. He worked over 30 years with Easter Airlines and retired as DC 9 Captain. He was a long time active member of the East Point Presbyterian Church.

There will be a graveside service at College Park Cemetery Tuesday January 21 at 1 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following at the College Park Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to College Park Presbyterian Church after-school program or Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.
