SUMTER - William Leroy “Roy” Harrington, 81, husband of Leola Nesbitt Harrington, died Monday, October 15, 2007, in Covenant Place. Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William Thomas Harrington and the late Edith Baker Harrington. Mr. Harrington was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon in 1968. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 15 and an honorary member of the Bass Master’s. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was formerly employed by Fort Roofing & Sheet Metal for 43 years and was the former owner of Harrington’s Metal Shop.Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Ronnie Harrington and wife, Cheryl, of Sumter, and Mike Harrington and wife, Linda, of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Sandy H. Anderson and husband, Philip, of Sumter; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler and the Rev. Laneir Singleton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edd Burnette, Mike Williams, Steve Davis, Jimmy Wilson, Brian Rembert, and Rusty Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 15. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home. Sarah Jerry Geraldine Harrington Dewil, 74, widow of Arthur B. Dewil died Tuesday June 10, 2003 at a local nursing facility. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas William Harrington and the late Edith Baker Harrington. Mrs. Dewil was a member of Sumter Baptist Temple and a retired secretary with Addison Moving and Storage Company.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Blocher and her husband Dan of Oregon; two sons, Thomas A Dewil and his wife Tess of New York and William Bill Dewil and his wife Delores of Sumter; one brother, Roy Harrington and his wife Leola of Sumter; 8 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Windham and Annie Harrington; and a granddaughter, Tonya Glazier.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday in the chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Harrington, Ronnie Harrington, Mike Norton, Todd Windham, David DuBose, Jim Munson, and Ron Howard.
