Martha C. Lunsford, 89, of Cuthbert, GA died February 1, 2003, at Joe-Anne Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert. The graveside funeral service was conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in East View Cemetery. Revs. Olin Johnson, Tom McClendon and Charles Christmas officiated.

Mrs. Lunsford was born April 25, 1913, in Cottonwood, Ala., daughter of the late Joseph E. Christmas and Antie M. Hughs Christmas. Mrs. Lunsford and her late husband, Oscar, owned and operated Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert from 1947 until their retirement in 1966. She was a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science (Nashville), was a graduate of Moody Nursing School of Dothan, Ala., and attended Baylor University, doing post graduate work for surgical nursing. Mrs. Lunsford was also retired as Nurse for Andrew College. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuthbert where she was director of the Extension Department for many years and the W.M.U.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Beacham of Lawrenceville; two brothers, Rev. Charles Christmas of Jennison, Ala., and Joe Christmas of Cottonwood, Ala.; two sisters, Wylline Williams of Dothan, Ala., and Nell Lathrop of Seville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Chad Beacham of Arnoldsville, and Katie Beacham of Chicago. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, P.O. Box 71341, Albany, GA 31708, or First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 274, Cuthbert, GA 39840.


Oscar Luther Lunsford-4767


Oscar Luther Lunsford, 91, of Cuthbert, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Patterson Hospital in Cuthbert. The graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. from East View Cemetery in Cuthbert. The Rev. Tracy Brinson and the Rev. Charles Christmas will officiate.
Mr. Lunsford was born March 23, 1910, in Del Rio, Tenn., son of the late James and Mary Shelton Lunsford. He and his wife owned and operated Lunsford Funeral Home from 1947 to 1966. He served as Randolph County Coroner from 1956 until 1978. He was a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn., was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Cuthbert, and was a Mason. Mr. Lunsford served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Christmas Lunsford of Cuthbert; a daughter, Mary Ann Beacham and her husband Charles of Lawrenceville, four grandchildren, Chad Beacham, Katie Beacham, Ron Lunsford and Rhonda Lunsford. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Lunsford. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 71341, Albany, GA 31708 or Annie Armstrong Offering, c/o First Baptist Church of Cuthbert, GA 31740.
