She was a daughter of the late Aubrey Maston and Beulah Barrentine Christmas. She was a member of Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church and was predeceased by a son, Aubrey James "Buddy" Alford. Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Jackson and her husband, Brooks, and Jo Ann Grainger and her husband, Garland, all of Conway; a brother, George Maston Christmas of Baltimore,; a half-sister, Nada Faye Lambert of Sumter; a half-brother, Vernon Christmas of Latta; a daughter-in-law, Olean Alford of Conway; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. CHRISTMAS-MERRITT, RUTH E. - Ruth E. Christmas-Merritt of Peekskill, died on May 18, 2007. She was 88 years old. Mrs. Christmas-Merritt was a Secretary/Receptionist with Peekskill Urban Renewal and IBM. She was born on December 21, 1918 in Boston, MA to Ernest and Mary Adele (MacMurray)Atkins. She married George M. Christmas of Towson, MD, then later married Lee Merritt. Mrs. Christmas was a member of the Assumption Parish counsel, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Franciscan Guild at St. Joseph's Home. She was a member of the Peekskill and Cortlandt Senior Citizens, a past member of the Peekskill Womens' Club and a charter member of the JCetts. Also, Ruth was a volunteer at the Hudson Valley Hospital. She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Carmine) Centuori of Cortlandt Manor, Thomas (Vicki) Christmas of Buchanan, Patrick (Dannette) Christmas of Chevy Chase, MD, and Michael Christmas of Cortlandt Manor, thirteen grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. On Friday, June 24, 2005, Barbara and myself went to Laurinburg, North Carolina to visit him. Liston said he did not remember his daddy, because he died couple of days before he was born. Funeral services for Florrie Rachel Carter Dooley, 96, of Barnwell, SC will be held 3 o'clock p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Dillon, SC with the Reverends Dr. Charles F. Dooley, Rev. Dexter Lambert, Rev. Edgar Foster and Rev. Billy McLellan officiating, burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Dillon, SC. The Family will receive friends Monday Oct. 4, 2010 from six to eight p.m. at Folk Funeral Home in Williston, SC and also Tuesday two hours prior to the service at the church in Dillon, SC. The Lighthouse Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Dooley passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday. Born in Marion, SC she was a daughter of the late Mike and Bertha Christmas Carter.Mrs. Dooley was a retired LPN having worked at Marion Memorial Hospital for many years and formally worked for Bell South Telephone Company. She served in the Christian ministry for over 55 years, was in the senior adult Lighthouse Sunday school class, formally taught the teen boys Sunday school class, she was director of the woman's missionary union, girls auxiliary, vacation Bible school, and Christian education director, and was in the adult choir. Served as a Cub Scout den mother, was a Boy Scout leader and was married to the late Melvin Charles Dooley.

Mrs. Juanita Nita Johnson Carter Martin died Thursday, October 30, 2008, at her home, in Mullins, SC. She was born on October 27, 1933 to the late James Olan and Fannie Lewis Johnson of Marion. She was predeceased by her first husband of 27 years, Harry C. Carter, Sr., her second husband of 16 years, William E.Martin, Sr., a son Franklin D. Frankie Carter, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.Mrs. Martin in survived by a son, Harry C. Carter, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Hilton Head Island; a sister, Eva Floyd of North Carolina; 2 step-sons, William Billy Martin, Jr. and his wife, Crystal of Concord, NC and Guy Martin and his wife, Tracy of Fort Mill, SC; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was especially close to and very proud of her grandson, Eric Garris and his family of Marion.
Mrs. Martin was an active member of Mullins First Baptist Church and the Senior Saints Choir. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved people, loved her church, and volunteered in numerous capacities especially at her church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at Mullins First Baptist Church directed by Richardson Funeral Home of Marion. The Rev. Jim Kirkland will be officiating. Burial will follow at Palmetto Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at Marion Church of God. Burial will follow at Christmas Family Cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Christmas was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Horry County, a daughter of the late Jessie Calhoun Roberts and the late Lillie Caroline Murrow Roberts. Mrs. Christmas was a retired seamstress and a homemaker. She was a graduate of Aynor High School. Mrs. Christmas was a member of Marion Church of God.

He was a native of Kershaw, S.C., but had lived in Barnesville for over twenty-five years. Son of the late Mr. Patrick Eason Tarte Sr. and the late Mrs. Sallie Mae Rogers Tarte, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Stella Bailey Tarte.
Mr. Tarte was a graduate of Whitmire High School, attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., and was a graduate of Clemson University. He worked with CSX Railroad for a number of years, and was the former owner of Tarte's Auto Supply in South Carolina. Mr. Tarte retired from the management at General Tire-Aldora Mills. He attended the Barnesville Presbyterian Church.
