When the family moved from Arizona to California. they camped out on the beach. Not knowing the nature of the ocean. They camped below the tide line. Luckily for them High tide was not that night otherwise all could have been lost... William was Plantation boss near Lompoc CA. When he retired they brought a one room school house and remodeled it. They lived in Grover City, CA " Will" had at his death a full head of black hair. He was shorter than his wife Eva.

Eva Bitha Gray-6999

lived Grover City, CA since 1954. Eva was entirely white haired since the age of 20 years. She stood 6' or more. She often said "a man retires but a woman never does". I met her when I was 20 and had never met a person who had used snuff before, let alone a woman. As I grew up in the Mid West, I knew a lot of farmers having come from a family of farmers, but the southern plantation farmers were a different breed of people. I am sure they were well represented in Will and Eva. Having not lived near them I only really barely got to know them. Note from Shirley WHISENAND McNEELY daughter in law.
