Thomas Hogan Jackson-8504

[WHT: Clara Ann Martin Rutland's notes for Hogan Jackson:]
No one knew that his full name was Thomas Hogan until Clara began doing her research. He used only Hogan Jackson as his signature. He went to business school in Atlanta in the late 1800's and then to New York to learn the banking business. He loved to say that he was in NY at " the turn of the Century" -- the 20th. He lived from the horse and buggy days to see the 1st man walk on the moon, via television. He married Mozelle Harris in Macon in 1904 and shortly afterward moved to the growing agricultural center of Sand Mountain, AL, where he founded the Albertville National Bank and later founded banks in Boaz and Arab. His favorite sport was fishing and he spent many hours on the banks of the Tennessee river. He always caught a string! During the time his children were growing up, he got them up a 5:00 AM every morning. Two would play tennis and the other two would ride horses with him. Clara said that it was a great relief when she went off to school and could sleep til seven. He owned horses until the 1940's and rode every day. Hogan had a smooth complexion and did not look his age. His posture was always very erect and his demeanor stern but pleasant. In her book about the McGough's, Hogan's Mothers people, Carolyn McGough Rowe, describes Hogan's hair when she says this about his Great great Uncle's hair: "John had a full head of hair and was only slightly gray at his death at age 88. This was a McGough family trait that has followed through the generations."

Christening: 1873, "Thomas" Hogan he didn't use the Thomas
