[WHT: The Tennessee, Death Records, 1914-1955, has his name as Woods W. Christmas.]

[WHT: From Bob Hamby, Sept. 1, 1999:] I have only a few comments: the web site lists "Woodrow rather than the correct "Woodson". I did find Wood in the 1850 Grainger Co, TN census listed in the household of Elizabeth (b. 1813) and siblings ?, Marridy (b. 1835), Matilda (b. 1846 and Jane (b. 1848). Also Hannah Christmas ( b. 1811) is listed in the household of Susanah Watson. There is some debate at the present as to Wood's wife Susan's last name. I have it as Scarbrough but cannot find the documentation. You probably should at least list Scarbrough as a possible last name.

[WHT: Received May 15, 2002 from Mae Webster Vaught, a descendant.]

Just saw your page on the surname CHRISTMAS. I have a little more information on the William Woodson (Wood) Christmas and Susan Russell Christmas of Harriman, Tn., if you could add to what you have. They were my g grandparents and I feel the information is pretty much correct. You have listed two of their children, but there were several more.

They are as follows: George Christmas, Etta Christmas, Cordia Elizabeth Christmas - b. 1870 d. July 1912 - She married John B. Webster in Coalfield, TN. Both are buried in Davis Cemetary in Coalfield, TN. Maude Christmas; Lula Christmas married Charles Goldberg; Arthur Christmas married Elda Jackson; Gentry Christmas; Henry Christmas never married; Lonzo (Lonnie) married Novella Ritter.

The children of Cordia Elizabeth Christmas and John B. Webster were as follows: Paris G. Webster, Vivian Webster, Dena Webster, Ornan Webster, Eva Webster, Mabel Webster, Harvey Webster, Orville W. Webster and Claude Webster.

Mrs. Vaught stated that Susan Christmas maiden name was RUSSELL.

[WHT: I think this is Maude: Mrs. J. D. Young was at Harriman last week attending the funeral of her father, Mr. W. W. Christmas. (Morgan County Press dated December 21, 1917)]

While searching around for my allied families, I found your messages (below). I can give you a small amount of info on them. The "Sarah A. Christmas" is my gg-aunt, Sarah Ann RIGNEY, daughter of Harrison RIGNEY and Matilda SHELTON-RIGNEY, she was born in Fentress County, TN. Her family moved to TX, first, and that is where she and William Andrew CHRISTMAS were married, (Johnson County), in 1886. Her parents then moved to Washita County, (Cordell) OK, around 1899, and she and her husband William A. Christmas went with them.

I believe this William A. Christmas was from TN also, but I have no proof yet, I have just contacted a descendent of theirs, and hope he might know more information. I do know that William A. Christmas and Sarah Rigney-Christmas had a daughter by the name of Hattie Mae Christmas who was born in 1897. She married a Steven Robert BRONSON.
